Heat Study N.3
Wallpaper Projects and Kin and Company collaborated to create Heat Studies. Through a process as ancient as civilization, heat tempering has been used for millennia to harden steel, physically transforming the metal through the precise control of heat and fire. As the molecules within the metal realign under ever increasing heat, specific wavelengths of light are either intensified or attenuated within a vanishingly thin iron oxide layer at the surface of the material. The result is an exceptionally specific spectrum of color - from a pale bronze, to deep purple, to a grey blue - simultaneously mercurial and predictable, akin to the fleeting colors of soap bubbles and oil films.
